RIP Donald Cobb

Donald Ray Cobb, age 99, of Evansville, IN, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

Don was born April 28, 1925, in Evansville, IN, to William and Froy (Ray) Cobb. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1942, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Evansville. He retired in 1983 from Whirlpool Corporation after working as a Mechanical Engineer for 33 years. Don returned to Whirlpool and worked on contract for them another 4 years. He was a life-time member of Mensa International. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church for over 70 years and was an active member of the FAHOLO and the 4-Cer’s Sunday School Classes. He enjoyed Sunday lunches each week with his friends from class.

Don was a D-Day Veteran in the United States Navy, serving in Normandy during World War II where he worked as a Radio Man, Second Class. He was active with The Greatest Generations Foundation for 10 years, traveling with them to Normandy and France 9 different times. He was on the third Honor Flight back in 2015. On the 75th Celebration of D-Day, Don was awarded the French Legion of Honor on the USS LST-325, presented by the French Consulate, the Evansville Mayor, and many other dignitaries from around the world.

Don is survived by his daughter, Krista Daugherty (Alva) of Fortville, IN; sons, Craig Cobb (Carol) of McCordsville, IN, and Stanton Cobb (Cheryl) of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Andrea Fowler, Johnathan Cobb (Stacey), Laura Carr (Bill), Scott Cobb, David Cobb, Andrew Anoskey (Bonnie), George Koehler, Melissa Koehler, Miranda Rahman (Derrick), John Koehler, Kurt Koehler (Brianna), Rose Daugherty, Hollis Daugherty, and Nora Coe (Melvin); great grandchildren, McKenzie Bedwell (Jordan), Mya Cobb, Merrill Cobb, Madison Fowler, Morgan Fowler, “B” Fowler, Caroline Carr, Kennedy Carr, Cooper Carr, Jaxon Jochem, Oakley Jochem, Ryder Rahman, Allison Koehler, Robbie Koehler, Lillian Anoskey, and Hazel Anoskey; and nieces and cousins.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, William and Froy Cobb; beloved wife of 57 years, Betty J. (Denton) Cobb; sister, Doris Baker; and brother, Norman Cobb.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. CST, Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN. The American Legion Kapperman Post 44 will perform a walk-through and Pastor Jim Turpin will officiate. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery where the Kapperman Post will render military honors.

Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time CST, Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
